Re: Upgrade to Intel Widi has left me with NO Intel Widi?

Firstly, please allow me to thankyou for answering my query even though you have not yet supplied me the solution.

I purchased the PC together with the Netgear PVT2000 in June 2011.

This was a specific purchase as it's main use would be to allow viewing downloaded videos on the big TV screen.

The system has served me well since 2011 and during this time their has been updates applied to both software and firmware.

These updates HAVE NOT had any detrimental effect to the system and has been in use almost every night during this past two and abit years.

Last Thursday,28th November I was prompted to upgrade the software again.

I clicked to accept the upgrade and consequently the software was upgraded which was then followed by a firmware upgrade to the adaptor.

Upon completion it stated that upgrade was successful.

After this upgrade to both software and firmware I found I could no longer connect as no adaptor could be detected.

After many hours of shutting down and rebooting pc and adaptor and trying to connect I felt so frustrated that I performed a system restore on the pc to try and revert to the previous version of software before the upgrade.

The system restore was successful but when I fired up Intel Widi software the first thing it did was go straight into update mode and updated itself once again to the latest version.

The next day, Friday, I tried to connect but once again was unable to.

I searched internet trying to find a solution but no joy so I ended up joining the Intel community website just so I could list my problem and hope that Intel could provide me a solution to the problem.

On Saturday I was able to actually connect even though obviously nothing has been done to try and fix the problem.

My connection remained for about 1 hour and then disconnected and a message was on the screen saying that for some unknown reason the application had to be terminated.

I was unable to connect again after this because it could not detect any adaptors.

Sunday...no joy,  after many attempts and alot of cursing I was unable to connect.

Please remember that for the last two and abit years I have used this system night after night with no problems so you can imagine my frustration at not being able to connect anymore.

Ok, Monday..fired up the pc, fired up the tv and adaptor..tried to connect...and bingo I connected.

One thing I have noticed is that if connection is going to succeed then when Intel Widi software is started and the main screen appears then the adaptor is listed straight away.

It is there in front ofd your eyes as soon as the main screen appears.

If connection is NOT going to be successful then when the main screen appears there is no adaptors listed and the scan is going trying to find one but always ends up and no adaptors detected.

Anyway, Monday night, I connected ok and it was good for the entire night ( approx 5 hours).

At the end of the evening everything was closed as per normal.

Tuesday night...tried again but no way could I connect.

Then noticed that Joe_Intel had responded to my previous email and I tried Joe's suggestions.

I performed a hard reset on the adaptor but still no good ..I have now tried this a few times.

When I look at TV screen when adaptor is up I can see that the adaptor name is still Living Room as per previous plus adaptor ID is still F8AA/F8BB as it has always been.

Once again last night I tried shutting down and restarting both pc and adaptor plus I tried repositioning both adaptor and pc but no good.

Reality is that the position of the laptop in regard to the adaptor has been the same since June 2011 and never caused any obvious problems.

I am sorry this message has gone on abit but I wanted to try and put on paper everything that has happened since the upgrade.

Joe, please can you provide an answer to the following.

1. I have used this system succesfully for over 2 years but the latest upgrade has resulted in a basic inability to reliably connect anymore, even though I have been able to connect twice since the upgrade....would you agree that the upgrade has caused this?

2. Just what was the upgrade and what was it trying to do? bearing in mind that I have had over two trouble free years with prvious installation.

3. Is there any way you can send me a "downgrade" for want of a better word so that I can restore the software and firmware back to their previous versions and without wanting to upgrade again?

4. If you cannot provide me a downgrade then please can you provide details as to how I can reliably run this new version.

As I have mentioned, I have been able to connect twice since upgrade but that is all....there has also been many unsuccessful attempts to connect.

I guess I am trying to understand how it is possible that it did connect when most of the time is is unable.

My apologies for such a long message but at this point in time all I can see is that a so called upgrade which is supposedly there to make things better has resulted in the basic loss if the Intel Widi system and made even more frustrating when it has worked so well these last couple of years.

I hope you are able to provide me a solution to get the system back and working again.

Steve
