I have a Sony Vaio Pro and the exact same problem. I upgraded my Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 RTM. With the 8.0 drivers (from Sony/Intel) I get crashes in graphical applications (like the Graphics Config program from Intel, Visual Studio 2012) and instabilities. I installed the 8.1 Intel driver and it works better, but the internal monitor on the notebook now has this TV static-like flicker. External (HDMI) monitor works fine. I also have a DisplayLink (Toshiba Dynadock) and the reason (I believe) it doesn't work with the basic 8.1 drivers (Microsoft) is that it requires some advanced features from the primary video driver that the basic driver doesn't provide. The Intel 8.1 driver works with DisplayLink and the external monitor, but I seem to have some issues when resuming from hibernate. Also the internal monitor doesn't work at all (only tried when resuming from hibernate).
It's hard to determine if this is a problem with the Intel driver or the Sony laptop. Since everything works fine in 8.0 (even with the Intel driver) I'm thinking it's a problem with the Intel 8.1 driver. Please help us!
