It's really important to have all the updates install for the OS. I would recommend working to resolve that issue before addressing driver relates issues. Does your installation media (DVD) for Windows 7 contain Service Pack 1 or is it the original release? If it does not have the SP1, you can manually download and install it from Microsoft here: Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Once you have it installed you can try to run the Windows Update again.
