The SSD I have is a very common SanDisk SDSSDHP064G
The MSI website has posted the 3rd BIOS (since I started complaining I can't get it to work) with notes that Intel Rapid Start has (improved/been fixed) today. I still see zero change
Today I
- disabled tons of 3rd party services
- installed BIOS v 1.8
- reinstalled Rapid Start
- attempted loading the RAM with a different program from what I've tested in the past which was a bunch of Windows 8 modern style apps in the background, to my 3D modeling program which was a simpler module to load the RAM past 4.2 GB.
- I tried with 8 GB of physical RAM instead of 16
This bug remains
What in your wildest imagination would cause this to fail once past a certain RAM usage other than failed BIOS implementation, or the software utility itself. I don't use uncommon software that I know of, and I've tried uninstalling everything, then testing, disabling services, all as much as makes sense to this point.
Right here in the notes of the brand new BIOS it says improved, not fixed improved Intel Rapid Start Technology function, I have 3 versions of BIOS 1.7, 1.8B1, and now including this one 1.8, the first two on their beta BIOS forum have notes that say fixed, not improved. It looks to me like this is a bug that's being worked on.
It's an improvement to hear you've seen it working because I've talked to MSI support directly dozens (too many times) of times with the simple question, have you ever seen it working, the answer being "no not personally" thus I have never seen it working myself and I am the only person I know of that has put the time into understanding it to this depth. I even created a thread on MSI forums the title being "has anyone gotten intel rapid start working in any way shape or form" 3 or 4 responses were no, the last an MSI forum moderator who adds the beta BIOS(s) to the special section stating "I used it then gave up".
It's almost repressive to see it not working with 3 versions of BIOS that state it's being improved.
In my official e-mail support ticket with Intel the response was, I'm not sure maybe Intel Rapid Start isn't compatible with 16 GB of RAM.
