To be fair, that explanation excerpt that you quoted is actually extremely vague...
I'll also add that this issue is not actually that easy to search for. Most bug reports that I've seen online are also vague and don't actually explain any low level details on why the SoC has issues. Steppings occur for many reasons -- having a B to C step isn't necessarily indicative of a silicon issue. I'd say you're as guilty as anyone else in terms of FUD and bad information. With that said, I'm sure there's an issue (as evidenced by the changelog for the BIOS/UEFI updates), but your reasoning in your conclusion is a bit flawed.
Regardless, I wanted to post in this thread to give an update on what is actually shipping these days.
I ordered a DN2820FYKH on Amazon from a third party vendor last week, and I received it today. The manufacture date states: 22 APR2014 (so very recent), and the Version number shows: H22962-101. I wanted to drop a note here just so people know (from a second hand account) that the current stock in the supply channels are still the 2820 SoC.
Hope this helps someone out there that is on the fence for purchasing. I hope that a firmware/BIOS update at least helps with the supposed sleep issue that people are seeing. For my application (Car PC), maybe I'll never see this problem.
